died on Wednesday the 4th of April at Hope Hospice and Palliative Care in Providence after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Born in 1957 in the Island of Faial, Azores, Maria met her husband Carlos and soon married. They eventually had 4 children. Hildeberto, Lilia, David and Flavio, a sister, Iria Vargas and husband Manuel.
In January of 1986 Maria and her family including her Mother Albertina Machado and Jose Pereira moved to Rhode Island, USA.
Maria soon worked in many industries in the Northern Rhode Island area; including a candy factory, a carpet company and also Nyman later named Chinet. The last job Maria worked was at Memorial Hospital in Environmental Services before leaving on disability.
Maria enjoyed spending time with her family and grand-kids. She was loved by her daughters in law Rebecca Goncalves and Crystal Nico, son in law, Adilson Monteiro. She especially adored her grand kids. All 12 of them. Alex Flood, Anthony Goncalves, Aiden Goncalves, Brandon Goncalves, Kayla Goncalves, Ethan Goncalves, Samantha Goncalves, Alison Monteiro, Olivia Goncalves, Claudia Goncalves, Sophia Monteiro, and Nathaniel Goncalves.
Maria had many hobbies. She enjoyed going fishing, cooking and long Sunday drives with her husband. Maria was always happy to go to the beach and dip her feet in the coastal water. On Sundays during the early months Maria would attend the Portuguese soups at the Bridgewater Club in East Providence. During the Portuguese Feasts
Maria was always the first to help out anyone in need, may it be a babysitter for her grandchildren or a ride. Maria was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be surely missed.
Her funeral will be on Tuesday, April 10th at 8:30am from Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours will be Monday from 5 - 8pm. Relatives and friends are invited.
